Personal Training: Back Pain

Tired of being stuck with your back pain? Have you tried it all and still struggling?

Read on.

I hired Jason to work with me because I had extreme back pain from disc issues and spinal stenosis, as well as arthritis. Jason has helped me work through the worst of my pain and has shown me how to manage and virtually stop my pain through exercise and changing my ways of sitting and doing my routine tasks. I have regained my strength and vitality through the work and life habits he has taught me. I endorse his expertise in crafting an individualized health and fitness program for anyone, especially seniors.

Evidence-Based Active Approach to your BACK pAIN

Back Pain Always has a CAUSE.

Take Action

If you are reading this it is likely that you are dealing with chronic low back pain. I feel for you. I have personally dealt with chronic low back pain which lasted for about 15 years. During that time I spent who knows how much money and time trying to fix my back pain. You, like me, have probably tried a lot of methods. Chiropractic, massage, acupuncture, physical therapy, shots, alignment techniques and more.

I did eventually find one health care professional that helped me greatly. He was the first person that taught me the importance of PRINCIPLES over METHODS. If you can understand the "WHY" of your pain, you have a much better chance of overcoming it. To solve tough back pain cases you have to go deeper than a diagnoses (disc bulge, herniation, stenosis, etc) and figure out the mechanism of why your back got to its current state AND why it is staying in its current state. The 2nd point is more important.

Back pain does not have to be a life long problem. I work with people all the time that have tried everything, "graduated" (or got kicked out) of the medical system, tough cases, and people eager to get back to their lives. Below is a summery of what I take my clients through to beat their back pain so they can get back to fitness and better health.

Step One

Go through a back pain interview to discover your pain triggers, how to move and work differently to spare your spine, and begin a spine friendly exercise program.

Step Two

Build core endurance and recondition the deepest layer of your spine muscles. When chronic back pain is present, the most important element of training is bringing the deep core muscles "back to life".

Step Three

After building endurance it is time to get strong. During this step clients gain a lot more confidence and freedom. Correct exercise progression is used to ensure durability and strength is achieved without low back re-injury.

Step Four

You understand your pain triggers. Your back is feeling good. After mastering the training steps you are ready to try activities that used to hurt you. Perhaps you thought you could never run, garden, hike, or ride a bike again. Many clients "earn" their old favorite activities back. It is my goal to get everyone back to what they want to do.

As you gain more fitness, your back will feel better. With fewer back issues you will be able to do more in life, workout harder, and regain confidence.

"Saved from epidural and codeine treatments, thanks to Jason!   I was feeling stiff and in pain when he ask for me to give him 3 weeks training with him before medical intervention.  Jason identifies your stress and supports you through training to feel good again.  Pushing and supporting along the way."

"I have always been a very active person. After breaking my back from a fall I found the chronic lower back pain and lack of flexibility very discouraging. That's when a friend referred me to Jason Cornish. Jason not only did a thorough physical assessment but truly listened to my concerns and goals. I have truly enjoyed working with Jason as my personal trainer for two months now and I am amazed my lower back pain is virtually gone and I am looking forward to getting back to Pickleball."

"I contacted Jason because of a recurring lower back problem and some issues that had arisen with upper leg muscles as a result of my lower back. Jason was through in his evaluation of the problems and identified the probable causes of my specific problems. He suggested eliminating several exercises that I was doing on a regular basis. These included exercises that were very stressful to the back. He outlined replacement exercises that would accomplish the same goals and worked with me to develop these exercises in a modified program. Much of the discomfort that I was having has been eliminated as a result of the changes suggested by Jason and I am back to my exercise program but minus the discomfort that I had experienced. I have utilized his expertise on a personal training basis as well as taking one of the his small group training classes. I have recommended Jason to others that I know that have lower back issues and they too have great praise for his expertise. I give him an A+ for his training, his approach to lower back problems and for his knowledge in this area. I highly recommend him and encourage you to contact him if you have these types of problems."
